Atlanta, Ga. – Beginning in September 2010, the SCAD Atlanta men’s and women’s golf teams will hold their practice sessions at Charlie Yates Golf Course and Canongate Golf Clubs.
Because of its close proximity to SCAD Atlanta, Charlie Yates will host SCAD Atlanta’s weekday practices. By definition, Charlie Yates Golf Course is an “executive course,” but it also offers a tough challenge to golfers at all skill levels.
“I really feel that Charlie Yates is a perfect facility for the SCAD Atlanta golf program,” says Coach Wyatt Graff. “While it’s not an overly long golf course, it has enough difficulty to challenge all of the student-artist-athletes on the teams. I really think that because we’ll be practicing on only Par 3 and Par 4 courses, we’ll see a drastic improvement in our ball striking and, ultimately, our scoring.”
During Friday and Saturday practice sessions, the golf teams will travel to a number of different Canongate golf courses in the Atlanta area. These courses, which are considered “full-length” courses, will provide an opportunity for the SCAD Atlanta golfers to practice on a variety of different courses.
“I love the fact that Canongate offers so many different golf courses to choose from,” says Graff. “In my opinion, practicing on the same course day in-and-day out can get stagnant. The SCAD Atlanta golfers will be able to practice on a different golf course every week, which can only make us better golfers.”
